Happy because I’m thinking happy thoughts.

I’ve just been working for a few weeks (some say its not even work yet since it is still classified as training) but I feel like I am in need of some luxury vacations. I’ve been used to just staying at home and finding ways to earn online for the past year so I think I was shocked by the stress of undergoing the application and training. Blogging for a year has enabled me to have free reign on my time but now that I started working, I don’t have much say on it. I need to follow the shifts assigned to me and it is getting to me. I miss being able to do something I want when I want it, like bake a cake or bread on a whim.

Oh well, I just know I’m happy. Thinking happy thoughts make me feel so happy and it makes everything around me go with it. I know I’ll be able to balance my baking and work. I just need a few orders to get the ball rolling. :)

Clueless…

What is progesterone? I’ve been seeing information about progesterone on many sites but I really don’t understand it. I think it sounds familiar but my brain isn’t working properly these days. Haha. I should ask Leslie. She’s the nurse. Maybe she knows something about that. I still haven’t gone back to the hospital to get my second urinalysis done. I’m too tired to do so. Its been more than a week since my scheduled re-take. I hope the doctor wouldn’t see anything wrong again when I go back this coming weekend.

No one can step over you unless you allow them to.

Silence is never an answer. If someone pushes you down, they wouldn’t stop unless you stand up for yourself and show them that you wouldn’t allow it. If you keep thinking that you can’t do anything to change something, then you never can; because what you think, you are.

If you think you can change the world and you actually start it by doing a step at a time, no matter how long it might seem to take, you will be able to change the world because you believed you can and you did something about it.

Faith without action is just as bad as relying on simple action. You can’t live an unbalanced life. Practice what you preach, and preach what you practice. We are all able but not all of us succeed because we let worries cloud our minds. Focus on what you want alone. Don’t give any space for things you do not want. If you think of what you want all the time and you empty your thoughts of anything negative, life becomes brighter and happier.

If your clear with what you want in life, its easier to find the path that leads to what makes you happy.

What does your name mean?

August 4, 2008 · Filed Under Random Ramblings · 2 Comments

I just got curious so I decided to search for it. Part of my given name is Thessalonica and according to the one source in the web:

Thessalonica - a large and populous city on the Thermaic bay. It was the capital of one of the four Roman districts of Macedonia, and was ruled by a praetor. It was named after Thessalonica, the wife of Cassander, who built the city. She was so called by her father, Philip, because he first heard of her birth on the day of his gaining a victory over the Thessalians. On his second missionary journey, Paul preached in the synagogue here, the chief synagogue of the Jews in that part of Macedonia, and laid the foundations of a church (Acts 17:1-4; 1 Thes. 1:9). The violence of the Jews drove him from the city, when he fled to Berea (Acts 17:5-10). The “rulers of the city” before whom the Jews “drew Jason,” with whom Paul and Silas lodged, are in the original called politarchai, an unusual word, which was found, however, inscribed on an arch in Thessalonica. This discovery confirms the accuracy of the historian. Paul visited the church here on a subsequent occasion (20:1-3). This city long retained its importance. It is the most important town of European Turkey, under the name of Saloniki, with a mixed population of about 85,000.

I didn’t know that much. I only knew that my name was taken from the Bible and that my name is also a place (since I’ve been told about it by one person I chatted with in IMVU back when it was a new program). I decided to see what my nickname Nika meant:

Wikipedia says:

Nika may refer to:
* Nika (singer) (born 1979), Spanish singer
* Nika, a derogatory name for Mijikenda, the nine ethnic groups along the coast of Kenya, Somalia and Tanzania
* Nika Award, a Russian film award
* Nika, a Persian name, means good and happy and beautiful and delicate. The name is also is considered to mean clear and good water. (In Persian: نیکا)

People with the given name Nika:
* Nika Futterman, American voice actress who is the voice of Miguel on the PBS Kids show Maya & Miguel
* Nika Turković, the Croatian entry for Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2004
* Nika Volek, fictional character from Fox television series Prison Break

Not bad. :)

Just woke up.

August 3, 2008 · Filed Under Random Ramblings, Work Thoughts · 2 Comments

I was so tired last Friday/Saturday because our orientation started out late night and ended early morning. My feet was hurting so much because I was wearing new leather shoes that I just bought that day. I have been used to wearing sandals and havaianas for quite a long time already so my feet wasn’t used being confined in such small space plus the shoes are new so it still needs some breaking before I can feel comfortable in it. I had a hard time getting to Lipa at a late time that night because I forgot that there weren’t much jeepneys available anymore around 9pm. So I had to wait for a bus.

It was raining so hard so I got a bit drenched and the only bus that passed was an air-conditioned one. I was cold, wet and tired. Finally I got to Lipa, got in the building and met my best friend. For our lunchbreak, I ate siopao which costed P28 and a small bottle of water which was priced P11, not bad for a satisfying meal. At this rate I don’t have to read diet pill reviews, if I still find the time to read them. Maybe I’d lose weight naturally when I start working. Lol. By the way, I did lose weight. Remember I kept saying how bad I was because the last time I attended the gym was February? Back then my weight was at 99 kg. Ouch. When I had my medical exams the other week, my weight was at 87 kg. Yikes. I lost weight without doing anything. Haha.

I finally finished the last two exams today as well as the final interview. I had a very long day like yesterday and I’m so tired. I have my medical exams scheduled for tomorrow morning as well so I am still not done. Hopefully everything goes well. I have to find good acne cures soon for me and my sister. Working during the nights might trigger them. Lol.

Tired.

I had started part of the requirements for my application. I was able to finish at least the initial interview and two preliminary exams. I still have 2 more tomorrow and hopefully a final interview. I’m a bit tired as well because I’ve been trying to fix my documents so I can ensure a smooth application. Hopefully I can finish getting all the clearances before the deadline.

I have to remember to check this term life insurance thing some other time. I’m quite to busy still.

MAFBEX 2008 - I came, I saw, I conquered.

June 23, 2008 · Filed Under Money Matters, Random Ramblings · 2 Comments

In my previous post, I think I’ve shown how badly I wanted to go attend the MAFBEX 2008 (Manila Food and Beverage Expo) which started on June 18th and lasted until yesterday (though I do not know if many people went there yesterday because storm signal number three named Frank was pretty worked up) and I was seriously set on going to it no matter what. So last Saturday, I finally dragged my Mom to go see the expo even if it was raining hard. Armed with an umbrella, a large shoulder bag and an old battered ATM, we commuted from our home in Batangas towards Buendia/LRT. The bus was so cold because it was raining heavily outside, and the movie that was being aired didn’t help the cranky passengers at all. Imagine watching Final Destination 2 inside a bus on a cold wet day, with a huge bus traveling over a slippery highway filled with lots of other vehicles going to Manila. Final Destination 2 is not a great movie to watch en route to Manila or any place that requires traveling on highways or expressways or any long roads for that matter. Period.

Getting back to my story, I was only carrying P500 in cash when we rode the bus so when we arrived in Buendia, I only had P300 left in my poor wallet. Can you believe how expensive bus fares are now? Before the recent increase, I only paid P84 from Tanauan to Buendia (single trip) which was still kind to a commuting student’s measly budget. Now it costs P98.50 per person for a single trip. I’d have to go get a dorm when I go back to school since it would be cheaper that way. Since that freaky movie, freezing AC and painful rise in the bus fare, I felt a bit famished. I told Mom it would be better if we grab a bit of lunch before we looked for an ATM machine and head to World Trade Center (WTC). We stopped by the nearest fast food chain we can find after getting off the bus because it was raining again, so we ended up eating in Chowking. After grabbing some rice, soup and dumplings, we were ready to take the tiresome trek towards the ATM machine on the other side of the road. After finally getting a few cash on hand, we hailed a cab and got to WTC.

We paid P100 (P50 for mom and another P50 for me) for our entrance ticket and we entered the expo. I was like a kid in a candy store. I’ve just started baking, so baking supplies and ingredients is what makes my skirt go up these days not that I wear skirts or anything resembling one. So I made a decent game plan telling Mom we should go start from the one corner then work our way to the other end of the room and so on. I seriously scolded myself for not withdrawing all of the cash I had in my ATM before going there. There was really no ATM near WTC so I couldn’t get more dough to splurge on all the baking stuff I wanted. I rarely splurge but when were talking about baking stuff, I just can’t resist. If I had known there were so many things I’d love in the expo (and if I had a job, haha) I would’ve seriously availed of a cash advance from these people just so I can satiate my baking desires. That’s how much I’m into baking right now. I wondered in awe at all those baking pans, trays, moulds and shelves. Those silicone supplies, cake decorating supplies and other baking paraphernalia (somehow paraphernalia sounds too much like drugs for me, haha). The mouth watering almonds, chocolates (fondue..yummy), pastries and a whole lot of goodies. If I just had withdrawn enough cash…ugh.

So after going around in circles I finally managed to squeeze in my successfully bought list:

  • 2 kg of premium baking chocolate
  • 3 kg of premium cocoa
  • 1 kg of caster sugar
  • 2 kg of chocolate chips
  • measuring cup and spoons
  • tart moulds
  • muffin pan
  • pastry sheet
  • some back copies of F&B magazines
  • These are the stuff I had been having a hard time finding here in SM and Robinsons. So I was really grateful I finally got them. At least I can do some baking until I run out of the again which would mean I’ll be off to Unimart (since Peotraco said they had their complete line there) to get a lot of my baking supplies. I was bummed that I forgot to get the cooling rack I found earlier since I didn’t have one still. I guess I’d have to look for one next time I go to MOA since the malls here in Lipa provide inadequate baking stuff for anyone needing them. I was also bummed that I had to limit my pastry sheet and muffin pan to one each because I ran out of cash. I was actually planning on getting a cab to MOA (leaving Mom in WTC to chek out something there and withdraw from my ATM too) but it was raining outside and I didn’t feel like getting wet. I get sick easily when I get rained upon. Good thing the people looking after the baking pan booth that we stayed in told us that there would be another expo this coming August that would be showing more of baking materials and other food industry equipments. So I can still save up for that one and get all the other stuff I missed out on this expo. Wheeeee!

I’ll try to post the photos I was able to take here when I get more time. I need some shuteye since its still raining here. :D

I’m sick and I want to go see MAFBEX 2008.

June 20, 2008 · Filed Under Random Ramblings · Comment

Ugh. I thought I’ve escaped the “cold” wave our village has been having. I got a little bit sick a week ago and I actually thought I was better already. However, I got sick again yesterday morning. So I’ve been nursing a bad cold. My nose is  runny and extremely irritated that I cry buckets, my head is throbbing like its about to explode (which gets worse each time I need to sneeze -which then suddenly stops making my nose more itchy and my head more painful-), my muscles feel like they’ve been beaten with large wooden planks, and to make matters worse, I look like a hermit and my hair has been at its all-time low.

Rainy season has officially started here with the storm which Pagasa named Frank. We’ve been having extremely rough winds and its been raining on and off here. I can’t get out much because I’m a wee bit sensitive when it comes to getting drenched in rain especially if its sunny then rainy then sunny. I don’t do well in sudden changes to the weather because I have bad headaches (and when I say bad, its seriously bad, you know the kind wherein you try to bang your head on the wall because doing so actually stops the pain a little while before you have to be up at it again) which according to my neurologist before was triggered by sudden shifts in my environment as well as stress and pollution.

I’m even more miffed by the fact that I wasn’t able to go with my bestfriend, Les, yesterday to Manila. She was going to pick up her ID at the PRC and before that we were supposed to go and take a look at the MAFBEX 2008 being held in World Trade Center. I wanted to go there badly because I’m interested to see if there are any suppliers that carry baking supplies and ingredients that I’ve been having a hard time finding here in our province. Ugh. Hopefully tomorrow I wouldn’t feel so sick so I can go drag Mom to see it. I’m hoping to see if they have any books related to Amazon books that I’m interested in. I’m hoping it doesn’t rain so we can go.
