Summer Blues and Rainy Days and Mondays ahead.

May 30, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff, Random Ramblings, Sad Thoughts · Comment

This summer has been quite a frustration for me. I had plans to go to Puerto with a friend when Mom asked me to postpone it because we had to go to a family affair. She said our whole family will go swimming on one of the weekends this summer so I did tell my friend that I couldn’t go with them. So now its the end of summer and our family didn’t get to go out swimming. Well thats not really correct, since they all were able to go out swimming (Dad with the office people, Mom (with her friends) including my two youngest siblings, my two younger sisters got to go with their own friends in their swimming trips) and only I wasn’t able to join in any of my friends trips.

Ugh. Why did my schedule have to coincide with the family affair that I couldn’t get out of. Maybe next year in case I get to leave the country for work I can go look over some of the vacation houses offered in Outer Banks and get the rest and vacation I want. I’d rather wait for next summer than go swimming these past few days. Its been raining hard here in Batangas. T_T Rainy season here we come.

Weight Discussions

May 28, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff, Random Ramblings · Comment

I have been talking with a friend of mine about diet pills. I do need to lose weight because my doctor said my weight doesn’t match my age. I’ve tried some pills before like Xenical which was really yucky because it seriously makes you feel bad after eating some oily foods. I hated it when it made me soil my pants. I’m too old to soil my pants every now and then so I decided to drop it. I tried some of those chinese pills but I didn’t stick with them either. A friend mentioned Leptovox but I really have decided to avoid taking pills to lose weight because I take pills for my headaches too. I don’t want to have severe side-effects from chemical reactions of all the pills I’m taking.

Besides I hate drinking pills because it hurts my throat. I seriously have to get back to the gym. or I’ll be in trouble with my aunt. Lol.

Just when I thought I was over you…

May 27, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff · 7 Comments

I had thought I was over with my plans for working in a call center. Things have changed though so I have to apply in one to make some ends meet with regards to my sibling’s tuition fees. So I am psyching myself with the idea of working in one and maybe even making a career move in that direction at least until I save enough to start my own business. I have just started with my baking but I would have to set it aside and take classes when everything has been settled with the family expenses.

So there, I hope I get accepted in the center I sent my resume to. I haven’t really gone to Manila to apply, I just sent my resume to one that sent my resume to their HR, so I hope I hear from them. Its in Alabang so I think I can still commute back home everyday if I do get to work there. If however I don’t get in that company, I’d try in Makati next since my sister works there. We can save more by staying in one place (especially one that has its own kitchen). I seriously can’t live without one. I love to cook and I prefer making my own meals. Its cheaper that way compared to eating out. I’m cheap. :P

On a lighter note, this week has been quite eventful for me. My oven finally arrived! Wooohooo! So I had to test it at one and so far my family has been eating lots of pizzas for the past week so I can perfect my dough. :P Tadaa:

Nika’s Homemade Pizza

My first try with bread (I was aiming for pandesal…) didn’t go so well. It was quite heavy like a rock. I haven’t tried it again for fear of making some more rock hard breads. I was even joking my sister about the saying that goes something like, “When someone throws a stone at you, throw back bread.” My sister said she’d think twice at throwing a stone at me because the bread I made was really hard. Lol.

Then I had to try thrice before I got my pizza right. So far I’ve been making three good pizza batches. I’ve run out of mozzarella cheese so everyone at home can eat something else aside from pizza for this coming week. Also, I tried twice to make sugar cookies, and I still need to try it again to make it just right. Lol. The first one ended as cookie bars, and the second one just needed to be a little thinner to give that crunchy ooomph I was looking for. Hehe.

My Dad celebrated his birthday on the 25th and since I am the house cook I prepared a mighty meal for the whole family. Dad can’t eat much meat nor chicken so I had to make a dish that he can eat while we chomp down on my roasted chicken and vegetables and my  fettuccine carbonara. We’ve been addicted to mussels lately so I decided to prepare baked creamy tahong (mussels) for Dad as well as the whole family.

As for the cake, I didn’t want to mess it up by trying my very first cake from scratch… so I opted to get a Pillsberry cake mix that the grocery offered. It didn’t come with frosting and I couldn’t find any in that small grocery so I had to improvise a bit and had to make my own cocoa frosting. I kinda messed it a little bit because the frosting was still quite sugary in texture (I ran out of butter, hehe).

But I’m not giving up yet. I know I’ll master that frosting soon enough. I’ll get my own Kitchenaid mixer soon. I just have to work first to get it. :P

Ethernet and such.

May 15, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff, Internet and Technology · Comment

Nothing much happened today, except that I was told that I needed a CAT6 for ethernet. I really don’t know what that is but I just say, “okay” when told to purchase stuffs that is related to my computer. Been having quite a lot of expenses these days but that’s alright. I need to get our house wired so it would be easier for everyone at home since most of us use the computer and the internet a lot. My siblings go to school so they need it for schoolwork and research. Dad needs it for work. I need it for work as well. We only have 1 computer at the moment. We need to get at least 2 more. Yikes.

Condolence.

This morning my previous elementary teacher and her sister was attacked by two armed men while they were on their way to the Church. They fought back and our teacher’s sister got killed in the incident. Our teacher is still in the hospital and we have been told that she doesn’t know yet that her sister is dead because the doctors are unable to tell her yet because of she was still hysterical.

I pray that the Lord help Mrs. Wagan in healing the wound caused by this unfortunate incident and may her sister’s soul be at peace with God. We pray that justice for her death be found.

Church Lessons - Keeping your focus.

May 5, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff, Thoughts and Musings · 4 Comments

Its been quite long since I actually wrote a decent entry in here. This past two months has been very difficult and taxing for me spiritually, emotionally, intellectually and physically. My mind has been filled with many worries and unfortunately I gave in to my weaknesses and I crawled back into my shell again.

Today, I went with my family to Church. It has been very long since I last went to one, for after the Church we attended back in Pangasinan broke up into two factions, nothing has been the same ever since. I knew my spirit wanted to go since Saturday night. I knew it was telling me it was time, that I was ready and that it knew I wanted to as well. My family had been attending this new Church they found a couple of months ago from a family friend that Mom had in the hospital. This morning when Dad was waking me up, I felt how much I was being stopped by something I could not see. I can clearly feel it pushing me down on my bed, telling me not to go. It almost succeeded. I wanted to give in and just sleep, but my spirit was calling me. My spirit knew I wanted to go back to Him not just in thought but physically as well. I needed the Church back in my life. With the help of God’s name, I was able to push away what was stopping me from going to the Church today, and take part in the service.

When I got there, I was overwhelmed. The people inside that room were all singing and praising God and you can see them unashamed to cry. Men and women, children and adults were there offering themselves to Him. Each one elated that they are able to wake this day to worship and give thanks to Him for everything. Being there was like finding that something I lost. Even though something in me was still trying to tell me that I shouldn’t care, that I should just shrug it off, that service I went to today changed something in me.

The pastor talked about the journey of the Israelites to the Promised Land, and in the sermon he shared with us 3 important lessons that I clearly remember. The first lesson was God telling us to keep our focus on Him. In our world, there are many distractions that keep us away from Him. We find many things that keep us busy but we must remind ourselves that if our focus is not on God, we are bound to get lost. So we must always keep our senses up so we an avoid the temptations that lure our focus and attention away from Him.

The next was that keeping our focus on Him is not enough. We must also be clean so that He can work through us. A person who has given himself to God would be a living example of the change in his life. Once we have accepted Him, we choose to turn our focus away from everything else that is against His will, and by doing that, we become clean.

The third lesson he shared was that we must not only keep our focus on God and become clean, but that we must also listen to Him so that we would actually hear what He is saying to us. In order for us to fully live for God, we must listen to what He tells us and follow it. We must take that step to show Him that we have fully given ourselves to Him because we accept and do what He asks us to do. Taking that step takes faith in God, for we start to rely on Him rather than our own capacities.

On my own, many things seem impossible, but with God carrying me through everything, nothing is impossible.

Finding the perfect home for me.

May 5, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff, Random Ramblings · Comment

Our family doesn’t have our “own” house yet. We are still living at my grandmother’s house (my grandma’s sister) so we currently consider that as our home. I have always been fascinated with houses so one of my dreams would be having one of our own. Dad and Mom still have so much on their hands so saving for our own home is currently our of the picture. However dreaming is free so I can’t stop myself from looking at House Plans and the more designs I see the more I want to find.

We used to have those Home Plans magazines but it has been a long time since we last subscribed to it. I was so elated when I found out that I can now check new and old designs online. By being able to see plans on my computer without having to actually buy the magazines, makes it easier because there is a much larger range of designs to choose from compared to those we had in magazines. It also makes it easier for me to find which kinds of designs I am interested in, which would be those made with wood, especially those with log cabin textures and that have that earthy comfortable feel that simply speaks home to me. That’s why I always keep a look out for Log home plans because I would like to see what new designs are available so I can modify my dream home accordingly.

My aunt just died.

April 19, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff, People Around Me, Sad Thoughts · 4 Comments

I just came back from the barrio because we got a call yesterday around 10:30pm that our aunt has died. Mom and I went out and looked for a funeral service as well as the clothes needed for my aunt and we went there and stayed a bit. We had to go back home since my younger sisters were at home and dad has an early meeting tomorrow. We will go back there tomorrow hopefully Ate Nita can stay here to look after my sister and brother so Mom and I can help out with the rest of our relatives.

Sister breakouts.

April 15, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff, Random Ramblings · Comment

I am still searching for natural acne treatment since my sister has been complaining about it. I don’t have acne myself so I don’t have good ideas to share to her aside from the ones I find online. She’s having a hard time because it takes a long time for her breakouts to heal and its really making her face look bad, especially her forehead. If I don’t find anything good, maybe we’ll find her another dermatologist, her current one doesn’t seem to be helping much.

Leaving so soon.

April 12, 2008 · Filed Under Family Stuff, People Around Me · 4 Comments

I haven’t been blogging for quite sometime since my mom’s aunt (my lola) who lives in the US came back here and stayed for almost a month. We will be taking her back to the airport today because her flight is scheduled at 5 am. Overall her stay with us was a pleasant one and I will miss her a lot. She will be back again next year but for a much shorter time because she would be joining a group of friends from their community in Alaska in a cruise. She would then be leaving her group behind to go back here and spend a week or two and then she’ll go with my mom to Hongkong and Thailand.

I’m not sure which exact cruise they’ll be in, its might be Princess Cruises but I’m not really sure. I looked for it and I think I like the places they’ll be visiting that’s why mom said if things get better by then, we might also take a cruise vacation. But since many of our relatives live in Alaska, I suggested to mom that maybe we can try getting the Royal Caribbean since one of the destinations of their ships is Alaska.

Although one of mom’s friends who have experiences with cruises already suggested the Norwegian Cruise Line as one of the ships we look at as well. Right now we are still looking at all available options but I will surely start saving so I can have some extra pocket money when next year comes.
