Think of what you want, and not what you don’t want.

I was talking with Mix in Yahoo Messenger earlier when he mentioned about The Secret. Naturally my attention perked up since the title itself arouses ones curiosity. Searching for it I found that it was a book about helping people create changes in their lives. I’m not a skeptic by heart so I browsed around and watched some of the clips about it as well as read the book. It was a good read since I can say that the method does work because I have unconsciously tried it before and it does work. Its not really a secret but the thing that makes it a secret is that we often do it unconsciously so we are not aware that we can do it all the time.
I’ve read many books as well as listened to many brain/subliminal message tapes before and it does follow the same thought which is,
Think of what you want, and not what you don’t want.
We all have heard the saying, you are what you think. If you think you are a failure chances are you become one because its all you ever think of. However once you start thinking that you are a success, you become one. Its the same thing we do when we tell ourselves we can do it. When we motivate ourselves before our speech in class, proposing to a girlfriend, riding a bike, finishing that thesis and many other things. When we think that we can do it, its not surprising that we end up doing it. What we think, we do.
The Secret by Rhonda Byrne mainly reinforces that thought in us. It reminds us to think of what we want and not what we don’t want. I remember back then when I was reading things such as self hypnosis or getting your subconscious change your conscious mind, the main idea they presented is that not to think of a negative thought because our subconscious doesn’t recognize it. For example if you want to stop smoking, you don’t tell yourself that “I don’t want to smoke anymore,” because it comes to your mind as “I want to smoke” because it doesn’t recognize the difference. Thats why it is powerful when we think in an affirmative manner. Its easier to achieve what we want if we think of that.
You can’t lose since it helps you start everything you do with a positive demeanor helping you to enjoy what you are doing. Remember the verse in the Bible,
“Ask and you shall receive?”
We have to know what we want so we can ask for it. If we keep on thinking what we do not want, we don’t ask for anything, we merely state what we do not want. So instead of wasting your time thinking of everything that you do not want, spend those time thinking of what you want.
Just think about it for a minute. If you do not know what you want, how can you ever find and get it?

That’s what you call power of the mind. Me, whenever I feel I cannot conquer a certain task or have what I can’t seem to have, I just blurt out the mantra of “kaya ko to, kaya ko to, kaya ko to”. Surprisingly it works.

Haha, uu nga kuya that one works din for me. I remember that kasi back then I was so scared to get to one class kasi my professor is really a terror one. Chant ako ng chant nun tapos kahit super scared ako nagawa ko pumasok sa class. Hahaha. Tulad nga ng sabi sa commercial, “What you mind can conceive, your body can achieve.” =D
