A couple of days ago, I watched on 24 Oras (its a news program in GMA 7) about a recent visit of President Arroyo with cerebral palsy patients. As usual, a horde of media crew were around to report the visit.
I am not against the media nor the President in visiting these people, what I am a bit annoyed at is the circus it creates. Doing good doesn’t mean you have to show the good deed you are doing to the whole world. When I am sick, I hate it when there are so many people around and when they are noisy. Just imagine if you’ve got the President, her bodyguards, the media (with flashing lights and microphones towed around) and the curious crowd that instantly gathers when the media or the President is present. I really don’t think they were that quiet when they were visiting the sick.
A few months back (or maybe that was a year ago), there was clip in the news wherein the reporters asked why the dead wasn’t buried still. The person replied they were still waiting for the President to arrive, for what reason I can’t fathom except maybe appear before the crowd show sympathy and smile for the press. I understand that they have their duties and obligations to the public since their job entails it, however I feel that they must do that because it is what they must do, and maybe just maybe, not just because they want it to make into the news.
