Taking Care of Other People

I was surfing around and saw something about incontinence supplies. This aroused my curiosity since I didn’t know what they were. Turns out they are adult diapers as well as other supplies for older people. I remember back when Inay (Lola Bien) was still alive. She slipped while sweeping in the kitchen so her hip got dislocated and she had surgery. She wasn’t able to heal completely even if she had therapy so she became bedridden. It was quite hard, I was around Grade 5 I think when that happened and we took care of her until she died when I was in my 2nd year high school.

It wasn’t an easy task taking care of her because we had to carry her to the bathroom and bathe her and change her diapers as well when it got soiled. Sometime I can’t help but get annoyed as well when she becomes grumpy, but looking back I now understand better what made her grumpy and hotheaded. Inay was used in taking care of us, she enjoyed an active lifestyle and was used on cleaning and going around on her own. When the accident happened and she couldn’t stand on her own anymore, she felt inadequate and she felt useless even at some point a burden. I know I should have been more understanding back then. I cannot undo my past but I can change for the better. When I’m given another chance to take care of someone else, I know I can do better now. Inay taught me so much about taking care of people the way she took care of me.
