Why do you start a blog?
August 5th, 2007
I’ve been asked by people around me why and to be honest I don’t know the answer, or I don’t want to answer because I don’t want to admit to myself why I do.
Some say its because individuals today live such hectic lives. Working here, volunteering there, traveling back and forth from work and home where more tasks await, and you just have enough time to re-heat something or grab a take-out because you’re so burned out you only want to hit the bed and sleep for the remaining 5-7 hours before you’re needed back at work, or school. That blogging helps them rant about their life and the things that go around them. Its like having their own diary, their best friend, who continues to listen to them each day, no matter what.
Other people say, its because they feel alone despite the multitudes of communication means like e-mail, cellular phones, landlines, countless messengers and forums. Which is not really hard to imagine. Yes we may know people from online games we play, to discussion forums we subscribe and chat rooms we frequent, but most of the time you don’t really talk about everything or anything at all..
Some say, they just have so much time on their hands so they start one. Others say because a lot of people do, and others say to make a stand and inform people.
I started thinking about it and I started a blog for all the reasons above. Blogging makes me feel not so alone. My blog is my best friend online, and it listens to me whenever I have the time to just talk and share my life. Having people notice it and comfort me or give me advices, or even criticism is just a bonus. When other people read about my life and care enough to comment on the weird and random events that happens to me makes me feel appreciated still, and at times cared for.
With everyone so busy irl, its great to know there are still people out there you barely know who care enough about you to spend their time to read and get back to you when people irl can’t or haven’t for quite sometime.
You might ask, how can someone so busy, have so much time on their hands? Well sometimes we are so busy in life that when we get free time on our hands, we don’t know what to do with. Most of the time the people we know are so busy too, our free schedules just won’t meet. So we end up having time on our hands to do nothing, or there’s a lot to do that we don’t know which to do, so I chose to blog. I could’ve gone out and spent that free time outside and maybe met new people, but I doubt it with people around me so busy with their work and their life. Starting my own blog might be an easier way to find friends who are at the same boat as i am even if they are a few continents away.
Blogging reaches more people than merely going outside and sitting at the park doing nothing. All I need is my pc, my internet and my thoughts and I’m good to go.
